If you are planning on changing the nameservers for your domain name (also referred to as "changing DNS"), please keep in mind the following:
Depending on your arrangements with your existing hosting provider, your existing site content may or may not be available after switching your DNS. We strongly encourage you to backup all content/images and email messages/attachments before closing your account with your existing host. You should be able to access those files after switching DNS, but we suggest you contact your existing hosting provider to verify this before closing your account.
Once you’ve changed your name server, it may take up to 48 hours for your website to propagate (launch). This is dependent on your location ISP, etc. We recommend that changes to nameservers (DNS) be made Friday evenings to allow for the propagation to take place over the weekend.
If VCG is hosting your email, you'll want to ensure that you've downloaded any important email from your existing provider to your local computer (using an email client such as Outlook, Windows Mail, Thunderbird, etc). We encourage you to contact your existing hosting provider to ensure that you'll have access to any archived mail before closing your account.
Once these two important steps are done, you can sit back and relax and reap the benefits of VCG's Website Services.
As always, we're here to help you through the transition process. Don't hesitate to contact Client Support Services at (800) 558-3054 or by opening a ticket.
