On occasion we have customers whose businesses are setup in such a way that their DNS manages much more than just their website. An example of one such situation might be a customer that wishes to host their email with one provider (not VCG), and yet take advantage of the valuable Website services offered by VCG and have VCG host their Website. In instances like these, a customer may not wish to change their DNS settings to point to the VCG Domain Name Servers as this could significantly impact other areas of their business.
Not to worry. VCG uses Name Based hosting which allows you to point the A-record from your current DNS provider to the IP address of VCG's DNS servers, thus keeping your DNS host intact, but your website hosted with VCG. Basically you just need to edit the domain A-record so that it directs Website traffic to the IP address of VCG's DNS server.
VCG's DNS server IP Address varies depending on when your site was setup:
Website clients setup before Sept. 18th, 2017 use 184.108.40.206
Website clients setup from Sept. 18th, 2017 to April 22nd, 2019 use 220.127.116.11
Website clients setup after April 22nd, 2019 use 18.104.22.168
Every registrar and/or DNS host is setup differently. Please contact your current provider before editing any DNS settings, as entering information incorrectly could prevent your domain from functioning properly.
Below are links to popular registrars that might be helpful.
It may take up to 24-48 hours for the changes to propagate through the Internet and you will be in business! Please note that we recommend that changes to DNS records be made on a Friday evening to allow for the propagation to occur over the weekend.
